Takako Saito x Play Museum

2025.08.09-10.12

Takako Saito is a contemporary artist whose playful, uninhibited works invite audiences directly into her world. Her vision was shaped by two major influences: the postwar Creative Art Education Movement, which nurtured her artistic freedom, and Fluxus, the international avant-garde movement where she honed her experimental edge. Based in Germany and active globally, Saito returns to her hometown of Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, to present her first-ever retrospective exhibition in Japan.

This exhibition showcases approximately 300 pieces spanning her nearly 70-year career. Filled with unique “play” and experimentation—including interactive games using chess pieces and cubes, performances, and immersive installations—her work sparks the creativity and imagination of everyone who experiences it. Children and adults alike will discover the joy of art and find themselves swept up in a world of free expression. Step into this wondrous, playful space—and enjoy!
