Gabriel Rico

[Born in 1980 in Lagos de Moreno (Mexico). Based in Guadalajara (Mexico). ]
Gabriel Rico combines collected and found materials such as stuffed animals, shells, and branches with industrial products such as neon tubes and steel to explore new relationships between contemporary man and mythology, as well as the natural environment. This combination of organic materials with inorganic equations and geometry expresses Rico’s spirit of inquiry that seeks to grasp the natural laws of the universe. Over the course of his long collaboration with indigenous Mexican artists, he has incorporated elements of their animal worship and traditional handicraft techniques such as yarn painting and glass beads, in an attempt to seek out a new form of spirituality that enhances our awareness of nature in contemporary society.
