Danh Vo

Danh Vo, who fled Vietnam with his family as a child and grew up in Denmark, comes from an East-West cultural background riddled with contradictions. His works offer a glimpse into his own and his family’s experiences, the hegemony of the world that inevitably makes sport of their existence, and how the authenticity of Western-centric culture is dismantled and restored. Greek sculptures, statues of Christ, and other art objects used in Vo’s work, as well as everyday items like wooden boxes and chairs, and personal effects related to the Vietnam War purchased at auction, are placed within the space, sometimes directly, sometimes metaphorically, as if in a poem.
