OPEN STORAGE 2017

Open Storage 2017, a general public showing of the large modern artworks stored in MASK (Mega Art Storage Kitakagaya), which utilizes a former steel processing plant and warehouse with an area of 1,000m2 and height of 9m, was held from November 3rd (Fri) to 26th (Sun).

At this fourth Open Storage event, main artist Teppei Kaneuji used all of the space of the massive MASK to attempt an installation that boldly incorporated the stored works. In addition, the houses and stores that were built about 60 years ago for laborers working in the shipbuilding industry were restored as cultural houses and opened in August 2017 as the new space, Chidori-bunka, with small rooms in which site-specific permanent works were first exhibited. Kaneuji demonstrated his creativity by taking the old plant and old cultural houses, two types of remaining structures with different functions, and transforming and combining them to tell the history of Kitakagaya, which prospered from the shipbuilding industry.
