Yuji Konishi
Yuji Konishi was born in Mie Prefecture in 1961. He studied oil painting at Osaka University of Arts. While enrolled, he actively participated in group exhibitions in Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe, including “Yes Art” in 1983. After graduating, he held his first solo exhibition at Gallery Haku in 1984. His paintings, composed around the profile of a rabbit rendered in thick, free lines, earned him praise. In 1985, he exhibited at “Art Now”. His work is characterized by a pictorial space that consistently affirms flatness while showing a change from the simple and graphical pictures of his earliest period, which used a limited number of colors, to the complex clash of colored surfaces making use of brushstrokes. He continued to release works with rabbits, which also became a trademark of his, as a motif up until the beginning of the 2000s.
