Yoshikawa Hideaki
Yoshikawa Hideaki was born and lives in Shiga Prefecture. He creates art works as a member of Atelier Yamanami, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Yamanami-kai) in Koka, Shiga Prefecture. His creative process involves sculpting clay then using a small stick to make perforations in these clay forms while intoning “eye, eye, nose, mouth.” The first step is “eye, eye” and two holes, followed by “nose” and two more holes, then “mouth, mouth” below…and on the process goes. Then, further down, he goes over the work once more from top to bottom, re-scoring the eyes and noses and piercing the mouths several times too. In this way, he uses countless dots to create innumerable faces.
