Yoneda Tomoko

Born 1965 in Akashi, Hyogo; lives in London. Choosing 20th-century ideologies as her theme, Yoneda travels to locations scarred by war and earthquake across Japan and in Europe, including the former Soviet bloc, and Asia, visiting places where memories of these events still reverberate strongly, and researching her subjects thoroughly as she makes her works. Using photography to close in on the historical truths residing in land and objects, she conjures up the countless layers of memory behind scenes brimming with poetic sensibility.
