Masako Yasuki

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1970, contemporary painter Yasuki Masako graduated with an MFA from Kyoto Seika University in 1994, where she has been a part-time lecturer since 2003. She employs premodern techniques like tempera made from natural minerals and pigments to develop contemporary forms of pictorial expression. With a focus on large tableaux, her work, which she has exhibited in Japan and abroad, explores the environment, nature, and society’s relationship with human corporality, consciousness, and memory. Yasuki also collaborates with artists and researchers in various fields. In 2014, she was selected for the Agency for Cultural Affairs Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists, studying in the United States. Recent major exhibitions include the solo shows “Sea of Time, Future Strata” (Fei Art Museum Yokohama, 2022), “Chaos from Order, Order from Chaos” (galerie16 + Kyoto-ba, Kyoto, 2020), “KIMIKO YOSHIDA & MASAKO YASUKI” (Ruarts Gallery, Moscow, 2018), and the group show “VOCA: The Vision of Contemporary Art” (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 1999, 2002).
