Yaegashi Michiyo

Yaegashi Michiyo was born and lives in Iwate Prefecture. She creates art works as a member of Runbinii Museum (run by Social Welfare Corporation Kourinkai) in Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture. She began creating at age 19 after attending the facility’s art class. The theme of this work is Iwate’s traditional Chagu Chagu Umakko horse festival, with Yaegashi imbuing this horse with eye-catching psychedelic colors and shapes. This vibrancy is the product of a long, painstaking process whereby Yaegashi paints each individual color and shape in meticulous brushstrokes.
