Wakaki Kurumi
Artist/printmaker, based in Kyoto. Drawing on the “indirect” nature of printmaking as a medium, Wakaki bases her practice on acts through which conscious intent gives way to unexpected ideas and images. Moving beyond wood and paper, she now utilizes a diverse range of materials in her prints, from common household objects to natural elements like waves and snow. Exhibitions at the Sakamoto Zenzo Museum of Art include Art no Kaze vols. 3 and 4: “Wakaki Kurumi no seisaku dojo” [Wakaki Kurumi’s creative workshop] (2012 and 2014) where she created 30 works in 30 days, and “20th Anniversary Thanksgiving” (2015). She also creates prints and illustrations as key visuals for the Museum’s exhibitions.
