TRIO

TRIO are a collaboration unit formed by Osaka University of Arts graduates Takashi Hamamoto (born in 1958), Teruyuki Nakazawa (born in 1958), and Shinnosuke Fukuda (born in 1959) in the summer of 1983. Since their first exhibition at Gallery Haku in 1983, “The State as a Game”, they have labeled themselves a “trio exhibition”, setting themselves a theme and main technique each year. The group made a total of 13 presentations until 1992. The relative importance of the paintings gradually increased from what was a mixture of paintings, 3D works, and installations. However, they continued their unique quest for the three of them to create a single work, with the unchanged basic policy of “playful creation, division of labor, and collaboration with poetry and music”. The group went on hiatus from 1992; however, in 2020, they reunited for the first time in 28 years.
