Tamako Nakanishi

Tamako Nakanishi was born in Osaka-fu in 1956 and graduated from the Osaka University of Foreign Studies Department of Chinese in 1980. In the same year, she held a solo exhibition at the Shinanobashi Gallery Apron. In 1981, she exhibited her work at the 1st Jiro Yoshihara Award Art Competition Exhibition. Following this, she was active in solo and group exhibitions, mainly around the Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe region. She presented 2D patchworks in which dyed or painted cloth and paper were layered and sewn together at “Art Now ’85” and “The Critical Point in Art ’85”(Muramatsu Gallery). Nakanishi herself describes the process of establishing images of familiar objects such as “ponds” and “skirts” through shapes and colors as ‘decorative metaphor’. She also exhibited work at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art “Artists of Hyogo ’92” exhibition and held a solo exhibition at the Ibaraki City Yasunari Kawabata Museum of Literature in 2006. From 1995 to 2009, she released anthologies of poems and drawings. She continues to create and release works centered on delicate and rich drawings to this day.
