Tada Minami
1924|Kaohsiung / Taiwan – 2014|Tokyo
Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where her father was stationed, Tada spent her childhood in Gyeongseong (now Seoul, South Korea). She graduated from Private Women’s School of Fine Arts (now Joshibi University of Art and Design) in 1944 and was accepted into the Nika Art Exhibition in 1956. Around 1960, she began creating metal sculptures, and in 1962 established Minami Tada Associates, through which she expanded her activities into product design. Alongside the presentation of sculptures that used aluminum to showcase the effects of light, she undertook large-scale installations using lighting design and reliefs that earned her numerous commissions from banks, hotels, and official residences.
