
Soe Yu Nwe
A third-generation ethnic-Chinese in Myanmar, ceramic artist Soe Yu Nwe creates handwrought sculptures using clay. Inspired by female figures in Buddhist mythology, her latest works explore notions of freedom in the female identity. She has shown her work at the Thailand Biennale (2023) and Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale (2016). She has also exhibited at institutions including the ArtScience Museum,Singapore, British Museum, London,Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul, and Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane.
Soe Yu Nwe was named in Forbes 30 Under 30: Art & Style2019. She was awarded Advocacy and the Arts Fellowship by CARE USA & The Rockefeller Foundation in 2023 and Goethe Institute Reconnect Grant in 2021.
Currently she is participating in a ceramic residency program as Guest Artist in Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, in Shigaraki, Koka city, famous for its pottery in Japan.
