Shuji Takashi
Shuji Takashi was born in Hyogo Prefecture. He belonged to Atelier Suzukake, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Ichiyo-kai) in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, and he was a member of the facility’s Suzukake Art Club. Shuji’s works are based on his observations of plants, bowls and other everyday objects. However, Shuji strips his subjects of their surface appearances to imbue them with a variety of unique forms and colors. These works often feature four colors: blue, white, black and brown. This color selection was influenced by the opinions of Hata Yoshiko, president of the Suzukake Art Club at that time and a great admirer of Shuji’s talent. In many respects, these works can be seen as co-productions between Shuji and Hata.
