Shiraga Fujiko
1928|Osaka – 2015|Hyogo
Born into the Uemura family, which ran a watch shop in Osaka. After graduating from Ōtemae Girls’ High School, Fujiko married Shiraga Kazuo at the age of 20. Having witnessed Kazuo’s creative activities firsthand, she began producing her own art in 1952. In 1955, she joined her husband as a member of the Gutai Art Association, presenting works made with washi and glass at the Gutai Exhibition and Ashiya City Exhibition. As Kazuo’s artistic career grew increasingly demanding, she ceased her own practice. She withdrew from Gutai in 1961 and dedicated herself to assisting her husband thereafter.
