Shibata Takako

Shibata Takako was born and lives in Shiga Prefecture. She creates art works at Shigaraki-Seinenryo, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Shigarakikai) in Koka, Shiga Prefecture. For some reason, Shibata refers to the blue-suited woman in her works as “mom.” sports the same clothes, hairstyle and shoes, for example. “Mom” originally cut a solitary figure in the middle of the canvas, but she has since expanded to take up the whole space. However, her mother has no recollections of wearing blue clothes, so it’s a mystery where this image sprang from.
