Saya Irie

Born in 1983 in Okayama. Graduated from Hiroshima City University Graduate School in 2009 and currently based in Hiroshima. Focuses on the roots and background stories concealed in conventional daily commodities, with themes involving breathing new life into these items. Representative works include the dust series, in which images are erased off of hanging scrolls, photographs, and other two-dimensional items, and the scraps from this process are used to reconstruct three-dimensional objects.

Main exhibitions include Innocent Romantic Ruins: Labyrinth of Love (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art; Hyogo; 2019), NEWoMan ART Wall Vol.9 Saya Irie (NEWoMan; Tokyo; 2017), and Shiseido Art Egg Daily Happiness (Shiseido Gallery; Tokyo; 2012).

Main group exhibitions include Indication and Existence (A-Lab; Amagasaki; 2019), Setouchi International Art Triennale 2019 (Shodoshima; Kagawa; 2019), Ascending Art Annual Vol.1: Shapes and Figures (SPIRAL; Tokyo; Wacoal Art Center; Kyoto), and Disney Fine Art (KUNST ARZT; Kyoto). Main awards include 2019 Pola Art Foundation Overseas Trainee, the Honorable Mention Award at the 2014 Okayama Budding Artist Award Mr. I Prize Ceremony, and the Shideiso Art Egg Award at the 2012 6th Shiseido Art Egg.
