Sawada Shinichi

Sawada Shinichi was born and lives in Shiga Prefecture. He creates art as a member of Ritto Nakayoshi Atelier No.2, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Nakayoshi Fukushikai) in Ritto, Shiga Prefecture. He produces uniquely powerful sculptures covered in hairline engravings and small spikes. These come in various sizes and forms. After Sawada finishes shaping them, the staff fire the objects in a wood-fired kiln for around 3 days, with the flames imbuing them with varying shades of natural brownish-red hues. The piece on display at this exhibition showcases his style from around 2007, but Sawada’s style has changed over time, with newer works evolving into different forms.
