Sakamoto Shokuro

Born 1934 in Akita Prefecture, Sakamoto graduated from the sculpture course in the Department of Arts and Crafts at Morioka Junior College. Until 1980, he taught art to approximately 700 students at junior high schools in Hachinohe, including Same, Minamihama, Koyo, Minato, and Odate. He subsequently served as assistant professor and professor at Miyagi University of Education until 1994. Sakamoto received the 12th (FY1977) Mobil Child Culture Award for directing special education students at Minato Junior High in creating the collaborative print Niji no ue o tobu fune (The Ship Flying Over the Rainbow). His major publications include The Ship Flying Over the Rainbow: Printmaking Education Practice in the Special Education Class at Hachinohe City Minato Junior High School (Ayumi Shuppan, 1982) and Printmaking is a Seed Flying in the Wind (Chikuma Shobo, 1985).
