Saito Yuichi

Saito Yuichi was born in Saitama Prefecture. He attended and created art at Kobo Syu, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Minuma Fukushikai) in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture. His works feature endless iterations of hiragana characters like “も” and “は み”. These characters are taken from whichever of his favorite TV shows happen to be showing on the day, with “も”( “mo” ) derived from the cartoon “Doraemon” and “は み” ( “hami” ) from the detective series Hamidashi Keiji (a Japanese TV drama), for example. The unique way these characters are piled upon layer gives rise to abstract images that transcend their hiragana origines.
