Rui SAKURAI

Born in 1981. Painter/Artist.
While painting, he found it interesting that there was gap between what he wanted to paint and what he was able to paint, and that the movement of his hands left traces on the canvas. Due to this interest, he paints with a physical approach, using the body and incorporating the use of many colors; moving back and forth between images and marks. He also executes live painting/performances. In his recent works, he has been painting features (faces) focusing around the theme that things made by people can convey something.

Major solo exhibitions include galerie16 (2016-2021), Gallery Shimada (2016, 2017, 2019, 2021), Gifu Collection of Modern Arts (2019) and more.
