Murata Seiji
Murata Seiji was born in Kyoto. He lived and created in Shigaraki-Seinenryo, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Shigarakikai) in Koka, Shiga Prefecture. He prioritized painting over other artistic endeavors following advice given to him by the picture book artist Tashima Seizo when the two met in 1987. Murata initially created pointillist works using felt-tip pens, though he later switched to pastel drawings. We can see what appears to be faces at the center of most works, though these blend into the surrounding colors and shapes.
