Miyama Eijiro

Miyama Eijiro was born in Mie Prefecture and he lives in Kanagawa Prefecture. Miyama would ride his bike leisurely through Yokohama’s bustling downtown area sporting a large hat and flamboyant clothing. When he was around 60, he placed a cup of instant ramen on his head on a whim. Passersby would turn to stare, all the more so when Miyama began sticking artificial flowers in his cup. Thus began Miyama’s career in performance, with his hats and clothes growing ever more eccentric thereafter. As he threaded his bike through the crowds with one hand supporting his heavy hat, this time a jar with a goldfish inside, Miyama finally achieved recognition as “Boshi Ojisan,” or “The Hat Man.”
