Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1981, painter and picture book author mirocomachiko graduated from Kyoto Seika University’s Department of Humanities in 2003. Since winning Grand Prize at the 18th Japan Picture Book Awards in 2012 for Wolves Fly (East Press), she has become one of the most sought-after picture book authors. She has also attracted attention for his work as a painter, where she spontaneously fills a large surface with creatures and performs improvised live paintings with musicians. She has received numerous national and international picture book and literary awards. Her output includes book illustrations, CD jackets, and posters. Recent major solo exhibitions include “mirocomachiko: Creatures Are My Mirror” (Yokosuka Museum of Art, 2020–) and “mirocomachiko: Wearing the Sea” (Creation Gallery G8, Tokyo, 2022).
