Matsumoto Hironobu
Matsumoto Hironobu was born in Hokkaido and he lives in Kumamoto Prefecture. He is known for his colorful paintings of small, densely-packed shapes. His diverse subjects include jellyfish, people, roads, uniforms and stars. Stars have fascinated him from an early age and they remain a major theme today. Rather than depicting these objects naturalistically, Matsumoto converts them into small shapes of his own choosing, with these shapes repeated alongside accumulations of dots, lines and planes. His works are characterized by the way these densely-drawn sections converge like cells to form one overarching image.
