Lin Tianmiao
Born in 1961, in Taiyuan, China. Lives and works in Beijing.
Lin Tianmiao started working vigorously after she came back to Beijing in the early 1990s after spending some years in New York. She made a large-scale installation that applied objects covered with cotton or silk strings, often taken as a tool for “women’s manual work.” Tianmiao became known as a remarkable “female artist” in the contemporary art scenes in China. At the same time, she has questioned such social norms regarding women or motherhood, including similar kind of remarks about her work.
