Kukita Daichi
Daichi Kukita explores the reception of classical painting in contemporary society, drawing inspiration from the history and materials of Western painting. By quoting iconic imagery from renowned artworks and employing techniques such as repetition, blurring, and reconfiguration, he seeks to uncover new modes of visual enjoyment.
His practice is informed by everyday encounters with classical paintings—museum shop catalogs stacked in large quantities, vividly colored reproductions sold at street markets overseas, or search results filling the screen with near-identical images. These instances of mass circulation and accessibility shape his artistic inquiry.
Major exhibitions include FACE2023 (2023, SOMPO Museum of Art, Tokyo) and the solo exhibition Repetition (2024, GALLERY b. TOKYO, Tokyo). In addition to his artistic practice, he is involved in the management of a shared studio space with fellow emerging artists.
