Kokufu Osamu

Born 1970 in Kyoto. Adopting the forms of different types of transport, Kokufu built and presented large three-dimensional works equipped with the motive power and functions for actual running.Choosing an array of industrial products as his materials, he fabricated the necessary parts himself to create unique cars and motorcycles. Later he expanded his creative vision by combining these with plants and ecosystems to make works in the form of gardens, greenhouses etc., on the themes of movement and circulation, and serving as allegories for the workings of man and nature, before tragically losing his life in 2014 in an accident while inspecting a work for display.
