Kim Riyoo

Kim Riyoo is an artist of Japanese and Korean heritage. He holds a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Arts at Osaka University of Arts. After working as a research fellow and part-time assistant at the same institution, he pursued his career as an independent artist.
Kim’s work is driven by the idea of creating objects that might endure for thousands of years—artifacts that, like Jomon pottery or ancient relics, could one day be unearthed in the distant future. His practice transcends conventional boundaries, earning recognition in both contemporary art and ceramics.

He has held numerous solo exhibitions in Japan and participated in international art festivals, curated exhibitions, and competitions in Korea, Hong Kong, France, the United States, Singapore, and Malaysia. His accolades include the Grand Prize Runner-up at the 2009 Kobe Biennale Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition. Major exhibitions include Ceramics as
New Exoticism (2010, INAX Galleria Ceramica, Tokyo), Yokohama Triennale 2011 (Yokohama Museum of Art, Kanagawa), and ARTs of JOMON (2013, hpgrp NEW YORK, USA).

In 2018, he was invited as a guest artist to the residency program at the Shiga Prefectural Ceramic Cultural Park in Shigaraki, a region renowned for its ceramic traditions.
