Keiju Kawashima

Keiju Kawashima was born in Osaka-fu in 1962 and studied sculpture at Osaka University of Art. He held his first solo exhibition at Gallery Haku in 1984, and exhibited at “Art Now” in 1987, 1988 (special display), and 1990 (Kansai Contemporary Art of the 1980s). His work has been conspicuous up until now due to his technique of using multiple materials, such as wood, stone, brass, iron, ceramics, bronze, and glass, in a single piece. Kawashima has consistently pursued a botanical motif, and in particular, he has often depicted propeller-like petals in his paintings. In 1990, he held “The Game of Manners – Japanese Art in 1990” at Art Tower Mito Contemporary Art Gallery, and in 1991, he held “Art Today Transfiguration of Sculpture:  Koshimizu Susumu, Kitatsuji Yoshihisa, Kawashima Keiju” at the Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition at Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art. From 2016, he worked on the “Twiggy Project”, in which packaged works were sent on trips and exhibited all over the world.
