Taizo Kato
Born in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, and immigrated to the United States in 1906. Since the 1910s, Kato had engaged in photography-related work and ran an art store, the Korin, with his partner Kamejiro Sawa (1889–1956). Kato was one of the earliest Japanese photographers in Los Angeles to approach photography as an art form. He was also an artist and writer and belonged with Sawa to Shaku-do-sha, established in 1921. However, he passed away suddenly at the age of 36 in 1924 due to a car accident.
