Karimata Akihiro
Karimata Akihiro was born and lives in Okinawa Prefecture. He produced art works as a member of Social Work Center Wakatake, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Waktake Fukushikai) in Urasoe, Okinawa Prefecture. Karimata drew buses and bus drivers. The latter are depicted in half-length portrait gazing out at the viewer with freshly-shaven faces. Karimata wrote their actual names and bus routes next to their pictures. It was part of Karimata’s daily routine to wave off the buses while murmuring the names of their routes and drivers.
