Huang Yong Ping

Born in 1954, in Xiamen, China. Passed away in 2019, in Paris, France.

Huang formed an avant-garde art group, Xiamen Dada in China in the 1980s and developed challenging and intense works of art, including but not limited to performances. Soon after he fled to France to join an exhibition in 1989, the Tiananmen Incident occurred in China. Having witnessed the confusion in his own country, he located his workplace in Paris afterward. With his sharp critical sense, he relativized the differences in cultural understanding and symbolizations of the animals or insects in the Oriental and Occidental worlds. He is known for his large-scale works critically dealing with social contradictions that live up to our contemporary times from the historical perspective of human civilization. Huan Yong Ping passed away in 2019, but his legacy is unforgotten.
