Hiroaki Hamada

Hiroaki Hamada was born in Kyoto-fu in 1960 and studied woodblock printing at Kyoto Saga University of Arts. He exhibited his works at the 1st Jiro Yoshihara Award Art Competition Exhibition in 1981 and the Contemporary Print Contes (Osaka Contemporary Art Center) in 1982. He also submitted work to “Art Now” in 1985 and 1986 (special display). In his series , silk screen plates were printed on blocks leaning against walls and on cloth extending to the floor, thereby expanding the 2D world of the work into 3D. Since 1985, he has exhibited at the Wakayama Print Biennale (The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama), and in 1993, he won the Award for Excellence. He has been active as a member of the group “Maxi Grafica”, which pursues the possibilities of printmaking expression, since 1988. In 1989, he exhibited at “Intersection of Printing – Kyoto, 1989” (Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art), and in 1990, he exhibited at the “Shiga Annual ’90: Contemporary Prints; the Application of Photograph” (The Museum of Modern Art, Shiga). While focusing on the production of prints, he also produces and presents drawings and photographic works. He currently teaches at Saga Art University.
