Hirase Toshihiro

Hirase Toshihiro was born and lives in Hokkaido Prefecture. He creates art as a member of Akatoki Gakuen, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Yourankai) in Fukagawa, Hokkaido Prefecture. His works comprise a number of geometrical planes, with these in turn composed of countless “x” marks arranged with a fixed regularity. These planes of clustered “x” marks are gradated using different shades of black. These gradations occur naturally as the ink in the pen runs lower,with the color tones emerging from the confluence of creative intentions and pure chance.
