Hatano Yoshio

Hatano Yoshio was born in Gunma Prefecture. He created art works as a member of Kanna-no-sato, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation Kannakai) in Fujioka, Gunma Prefecture. Hatano drew recollections of his old house. He rarely talked, though, so nobody knew what his pictures portrayed until his older brother clasped eyes on them one day. Hatano created at his own leisurely pace using a candy box as a ruler. For Hatano, perhaps the act of drawing these pictures was a way of capturing on paper old household scenes that no longer exist outside his mind.
