Hatana Hirotaka

Hatana Hirotaka was born in Mie Prefecture and lives in Shiga Prefecture. He creates art works as a member of Banban, a welfare facility (run by Social Welfare Corporation GLOW) in Konan, Shiga Prefecture. He is particularly fond of Tokyo Tower and has drawn it several times. However, he represents it using a complex interplay of colors that is not found by the actual colors of the real Tokyo Tower. It is said Hatana used his drawing materials in a fixed order when producing works for exhibition. His unique process also included several steps with no apparent relation to the workʼs appearance. For example, he would stop half way to daub some spent materials on the palm of his hand before washing them off, a ritual he carried out twice.
