Harada Yuki
Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1989. Using insignificant visual culture as a motif, he employs technology and performance to express the true nature of society and individuals in the form of “landscapes” and “self- portraits”. He made his debut by curating the Lassen exhibition and Shinrei-Shashin [Ghost Photography] exhibition in 2012, and subsequently launched into activities with projects aimed at stimulating discussion. Since 2019, he has regularly visited Hawaii and focused on transnational cultural motifs, as exemplified by Pidgin English. His major solo exhibitions include Yuki Harada: Home Port (Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, 2024-2025), Go stay go pakiki all da time! Eh… no give up ’til you pau! (Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii, 2023), Unreal Ecology (Kyoto Art Center, 2022), and Aperto 14 Harada Yuki: Waiting for (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2021). In 2023 he was selected as a finalist for the TERRADA ART AWARD 2023 and received the Yukie Kamiya Award. In 2024, his work Shadowing was added to the Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii’s first contemporary art collection, and is now on permanent exhibition. He was selected as one of the inaugural grantees of the CAF Residency Program 2025.
