Chou Yu-Cheng

Chou Yu-Cheng (born 1976, Taipei) studied at the l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris, and the research program – La Seine. His work expresses his intentions by emphasizing the procedure and operation behind his work. To a certain degree, he focuses on how to produce an alternative method of operation that simultaneously reflects the problems of reality and proffers alternatives with their corresponding benefits. His intention is to reflect on the existing state of society, politics, and the economy, as well as on local issues. Recent solo exhibitions include at Edouard Malingue Gallery, Shanghai, China (2017); Project Fulfill Art Space, Taipei, Taiwan (2016); Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany (2015); Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan (2014); Kaohsiung Fine Art Museum of Fine Arts (2014); Centre for Chinese Contemporary Arts, Manchester, United Kingdom. Recent group exhibitions include: Liverpool Biennial 2018; ‘Encounters’ public sector, Hong Kong Art Basel 2018; Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan (2017); Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Manchester, United Kingdom (2017); Te Tuhi, Auckland New Zealand (2016); Taipei Biennial, Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2016); New Museum, New York, United States (2015); Queens International, Queens Museum (2013). Chou received The Taishin 2011 Annual Visual Art Award, shortlisted for the 2011 Signature Art Prize, Singapore and was awarded the 2012 Taipei Art Award Grand Prize.
