Ami Yamasaki + Michael Smith-Welch

 Sound/Visual Artists. Based in Tokyo/NY. Produce collaborative work combining Yamasaki’s grasp of the acoustic characteristics of space through voice and hearing and Smith-Welch’s use of mechanical and electrical technologies. Major exhibitions include “SURFACE” (2018, Westbeth/USA), “VIVA EXCON” (2018 Circulo Center/Philippines), “Setouchi Triennale 2019” (2019, Ogijima/Ibukijima, Kagawa). Yamasaki was a 2016 ACC Fellow and 2018 Japan Foundation Fellow. Smith-Welch was a member of the MIT Media Lab from 2002-2011 and 2013/14 as well as the 2015-2018 Hirshhorn Museum ARTLAB, and is the co-founder of Rhizome DC (USA).
