Tamamè Akamatsu + Yasumasa Morimura
Yasumasa Morimura and painter Tamamè Akamatsu collaborated to create “The Birth of Man” (Cat. 47) at the time of the “Faces of Men“ exhibition held at Gallery Haku (Osaka) in June 1988. Akamatsu was born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1959. She studied oil painting at Kyoto City University of Arts and held her first solo exhibition at Gallery Haku while attending graduate school. After graduating in 1986, she continued to steadily release works, exhibiting at the 29th Yasui Award Exhibition, and more. In 1988, she formed the art unit “Artisia” with Yoko Matsumoto and Yoko Tanaka, who also appears in “The Birth of Man”. She continued to partake in a wide variety of activities including events and publications of printed matter up until 1996. In 2021, her exhibition, “Tamamè Akamatsu: A Story of Looking”, was held at the Amagasaki Cultural Center.
